Minimum Days Monday and Tuesday Oct. 23 to 24


Due to weather forecast in excess of 100 degrees for Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 23 to 24, schools will be on a minimum day schedule on those days.  If you have questions about exact dismissal times, please check with your school.

Welcome the holiday season with a truly delightful and mysterious story of a girl who wakes up in the forest, without any memory of who she is!   
Come see the Young Actors Theatre Workshop present Brian D. Taylor's "The Princess Who Had No Name", on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. 
Marie Contreras Romero is directing the production.  The cast and crew include Aidan Altobello, Joseph Chavez, Ethan Cochran, Owen Dampf, Eli Domingo, Colleen Fies, Raschele Gillum, William Kennard, Alyssa Lawrence, Dominic Maddan, Isabella Ash McCary, Jonathan P. McCary, Braeden McDonald,  Ayanami Moore, Alyssa Newton, Kaito Ochiai, Kento Ochiai, Francesca Poling, Thomas Ramsey, Lal Sengun, Elizabeth Torres, Ava Von Hartung, William H. T. Wilson, Jeffrey Woodyard, Samuel Woodayard and Izabella Zaldivar.   
Join us for this hilarious fractured fairy-tale romp and a mystery in need of solving!  
Admission is free.  Donations are welcome.  Proceeds will help support future Young Actors Theatre Workshop productions.

Our first Summit for current eighth grade students and High School Choice is this Saturday. Please see the flyer below and click on the link to access the reservation system for classroom presentations.


Tickets and registration for Summit #2 will become available after the first Summit concludes.


All tickets are free but need to be reserved to ensure a seat in the classroom. Some of the sessions are already full, reserve yours soon!

The Long Beach Press-Telegram is again launching its popular Scary Stories contest for Long Beach area youth. Winning entries – both stories and artwork – will be published in the Press-Telegram on Halloween, Oct. 31. The rules are the same as last year, with three age categories for stories and drawings:

  • Elementary grades (K-5)
  • Middle grades (6-8)
  • High school grades (9-12)

Here are the rules:

  • The deadline is Monday, Oct. 23.
  • All entries must be emailed, with the entrant’s name and grade, and the subject line “Scary Stories,” to: Stories can be submitted in the body of the email, or as a Word attachment.  Drawings should be submitted in JPEG format, no larger than 5MG in size.
  • Stories must be no longer than 650 words.
  • Artwork must be original (no tracings).
  • Entries will be judged based on imagination, creativity and theme.
  • The winning entries will be published in the Press-Telegram on Oct. 31, and posted online at
